The Great Commission
Go therefore and make disciples.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19–20
Mission
The work Christ gave His church
The mission of Elmwood Missionary Baptist Church is the same mission Jesus gave His followers: make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them to follow everything Christ commanded.
Vision
A community changed by the gospel
Elmwood’s vision is to build a community of authentic believers and to see its neighbors transformed by the life-changing power of the gospel as people come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
How Elmwood pursues the mission
Three shared commitments
- 01
We prioritize the gospel above all.
The gospel is the power behind everything Elmwood does. It shapes the church’s mission and gives believers their basis for unity. Elmwood seeks to remove distractions so the good news of Christ remains clear.
- 02
We do whatever it takes to reach all people.
Jesus described Heaven’s joy over one sinner who repents. Because He sought people outside the fold, Elmwood keeps asking how it can bring the gospel to more people in its community and beyond.
- 03
We make disciples, not only converts.
Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples and teach them. Elmwood invests in people so they grow in the Lord, serve faithfully, and become ready to help others follow Christ.
“The same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
A life of discipleship
Born again. Worshiping. Serving. Giving. Witnessing.
Elmwood builds its ministries around five marks of discipleship found in Scripture: a disciple is a born-again child of God, learns to worship in spirit and truth, serves others, faithfully stewards what God provides, and lives as a witness of Christ to the world.
